Catalogue Note

The first Dean's rag book was produced in 1902 and the series flourished until the 1980s. Dean's rag books became an established part of children's libraries and nurseries becoming famous for the logo designed by Stanley Berkley of two dogs trying to pull a rag book apart, with the legend, "Quite Indestructible".

Over the years the company commissioned work from many of the top artists of the day, including Cecil Aldin, John Hassall, Harry Rountree and Ethel Larcombe. The company also published Noddy titles and television tie-in books for the Camberwick Green series. Additionally, Dean's Rag Book Company Limited published numerous walt disney titles, including the characters of mickey mouse, pluto, donald duck, dumbo, bambi, and winnie-the-pooh, as represented here.
