Deirdre was first presented on 24 November 1907, having first appeared in book form in the same year as Volume Five of Plays for an Irish Theatre. This edition is slightly revised.
Yeats dined on the night of 10 May 1913 with Oliver St. John Gogarty and J.E. Healy (editor of the Irish Times), one of whom could have been the recipient of this copy.
