Catalogue Note
The Shadowy Waters is written partly in verse, and partly in prose, with the prose probably the work of Lady Gregory. The note by Anne Yeats inside The Pot of Broth records that this copy is a "duplicate from the library of W.B. Yeats | signed Anne Yeats".
W.B. Yeats's sister Elizabeth Corbet ("Lolly") Yeats (1868–1940) was, of course, with her sister Suan Mary ("Lily") the driving force behind the celebrated Dun Emer and Cuala Press (see our sale of Literature and History, 13 December 2007, lots 134-154). The poet's daughter Anne Butler Yeats (1919-2001) was a painter and stage designer.
