Description
- Autograph letter signed by Housman, to Sydney Cockerell, about Charlotte Mew
returning "Ben Jonson's book" and Charlotte Mew's Poems, on which he comments:
"...[they] have much that is good in them, only, as female poets are apt to be, she is too literary, and puts in ornament which does not suit the supposed speakers. I think the short piece on p.27 is the best..."

[together with:] a copy in the hand of Charlotte Mew of laudatory remarks about her ("...I remember all her talk but when I try to repeat some of the stories she told me somehow I lose all the essence. She just knows humanity -- one of the rarest things in the world..."), headed "De la Mere [sic] to see", written in ink over a pencil draft, 2 pages, 8vo, 11 December 1927, and a related note by Frederick Adams; all housed in a manilla envelope within folding boards

According to Adam's note, the short piece to which Housman refers is 'A Quoi Bon Dire': "Seventeen years ago you said | Something that sounded like Good-bye: | And everybody thinks you are dead | But I...".
