8vo, 3 volumes, first edition, one of 1,000 copies (of which 250 quires and 33 copies were remaindered in 1882), original red diagonal-fine-ribbed cloth, upper covers with pictorial design in black (encampment and mill, from a drawing by the author), and lettered in black, spines gilt and black with a design of standard, sword and bugle, preserved in quarter red morocco folding box, W.H. Smith & Son blind-stamps on front endpapers, very occasional slight foxing to a few leaves, a touch of fading to the spine, otherwise a very fine copy
