Catalogue Note
a fresh, tall copy. This work had a long gestation, having been begun in about 1704. It was facetiously described by Swift in a letter to John Gay as a great work which aimed "to reduce the whole politeness, wit, humour and style of England into a short system for the use of all persons of quality and particularly the maids of honour" (28 August 1731). The London and Dublin editions were probably published simultaneously in Spring 1738.
