Description

  • The Cat in his Garden.
287 by 320mm., fine watercolour and gouache drawing, signed in lower right corner "Louis Wain", mounted, framed and glazed

Provenance

Exhibited: Chris Beetles, "The Illustrators", December 1984, number 141

Condition

This fine watercolour is mounted in a double mount (thin inner red mount next to the image and a larger cream mount next to the frame). It is framed and glazed (image 285 by 320mm. within frame 470 by 530mm.) It has not been examined outside the frame (which carries the exhibition label of Chris Beetles and it is assumed the piece has been framed to the gallery's high conservation standards). The watercolour and gouache shows some minor signs of age when examined closely. There is some minor cracking and very minor loss to the end of the cat's tail and similar to the right cheek. There is a very small crack on the cat's back and the sky shows a slightly uneven surface. However, these factors are extremely minor.
