In 1870 the Edinburgh firm of Gall and Inglis issued nine separate stories as part of the series D'Aulnoy's Fairy Tales. Schuster and Engen note some volumes were illustrated from watercolours by Greenaway. This example accompanies the first in the series, The Fair One with Golden Locks.
