Catalogue Note
the great elizabethan narrative history. This is the edition of Holinshed used by Shakespeare as the principal source for his Histories. Sections of the text relating to recent events - notably Anglo-Scottish relations, the Babington plot, and Leicester's military campaign in the Low Countries - were censored by the Elizabethan authorities and portions of the text were replaced with cancels. The cancels are present here as normal, with the exception of two leaves (vol. 3, 6M3-4) where the cancellands remain.
