Catalogue Note

A fine watercolour drawing showing Lord Walter of Saluzzo and his wife Griselda shedding her clothes at the end of Chaucer's 'The Clerke's Tale'.

William Russell Flint's illustrated edition of The Canterbury Tales was first published in a three volume edition in 1913. This illustration appears to be an abandoned, although fully finished illustration.

The backboard has been separated from the illustration but is preserved on the back of the frame. It carries the title and the artist's address.
