The autograph letter signed ("CL Dodgson") is addressed to Mrs [ Alice Maud] Kitchin and requests her assistance in relieving "a poor shy man from another difficulty in getting female attire? ie to get a pair of stockings..." for his photographic subjects and notes the effect of white stockings in photographs. The writer then notes that shoes present no difficulty ("I have the courage to go for them, and intend to buy several pairs" (3 pages, 12mo, [Christ Church, Oxford], 7 May [1880])
