Catalogue Note

The present watercolour dates from Towne's tour of North Wales and Shropshire with James White in June and July 1777. Although it would have been drawn on the spot the signature and inscription appear to have been added later in 1783.  A view of Wenlock Nunnery from this tour is in the City of Sheffield Gallery collection.
