Catalogue Note

The lotus, featuring in numerous Holland patterns, was a popular theme in Dutch Art Nouveau with its focus on Eastern themes. In Eastern culture the lotus represents various meanings, amongst which the unity of the masculin and the feminin as well as the unity of mind and matter.
