Catalogue Note
a handsome set of this lavish work on russian antiquities.
The idea of documenting a wide range of Russian artefacts came from A.N. Olenin, President of the Academy of Arts, and was carried out under the patronage of Nicholas I; the text was written by Count Stroganov and others, and Solntsev provided the illustrations which were engraved by Dreber. The print run was a modest 600 copies.
