Catalogue Note
It is thought that this is the first and only edition in russian of Malevich's seminal essay. Some of the material here is included in Malevich's O novykh sistemakh v iskusstve [On New Systems in Art], published in Vitebsk in 1919 (see lot 74). Malevich, who was much influenced by Cubism, traces the development of modern art movements and credits Cézanne with showing Cubists a natural style.
