Catalogue Note

This second and considerably revised and expanded edition of Newton's Principia contains the "Scholium generale", not included in the first edition of 1687. Newton started to revise his text almost as soon as it was published, with corrections circulating in manuscript form, and by 1708 it was proposed that a new edition should be printed in Cambridge, under the supervision of Richard Bentley, the classical scholar, and edited by Roger Cotes, the mathematician.
