folio (448 x 316mm.), illuminated manuscript on vellum signed by nicholas i, 4 leaves each with cream morie silk liners and doublures, recto of final leaf signed by Nicholas I, text within illuminated borders and decorative scrolls, illuminated coat of arms, green velvet binding with embossed floral frames inside single embossed rule, green calf-backed portfolio with silk flaps, text leaves held with silk cord suspending the wax seal in a silver gilt case, detachable cover of the case with the crowned Imperial double-headed eagle, gold-thread tassles, portfolio slightly worn
