Condition

This work is in good condition overall. The white border has greyed somewhat due to the transfer of the charcoal from the composition. In the lower right quadrant of the sheet measuring approximately 5 ¼ x 3 ½ in., where a grey color residue has developed on the oilstick, presumably due to a drying or pigment seperation from the beeswax. The irregularities observable along the bottom edge are inherent to the paper support and the circular paper loss located 8 in. from the left edge is consistent with the artist's working method. There is a cleft in the paper along the left edge, approximately 2 5/8 in. from the bottom edge which appears to have been scorched. There are original artist pin holes observable in the upper corners. Framed under Plexiglas in a wood frame.

Catalogue Note

"My father was very much into gardening, planting trees, walking in the woods, being with nature. He used to build beautiful dry stone walls. I used to try to explain my painting to him by saying, "You build dry stone walls and everything has to fit together in order for it to stand, and I make paintings, and everything has to fit together in order for it to stand" - Brice Marden
