Condition

This work is in good condition overall. The colors are vibrant and the richly-textured surface is stable. There are scattered fine drying cracks in the lower-right quadrant, visible in the catalogue illustration. There is faint dust residue, particularly in the heavily impastoed areas. There is a small area of paint loss located along the top edge and 16 in. from the left edge. Under UV inspection, there is evidence of scattered areas of old inpainting which fluoresce throughout the composition. The most noticeable of these areas are located at 2 in. from the right edge, 2 in. from the top edge; 1 in. from the right edge, 14 ¼ in. from the bottom edge; 6 in. from the top edge, 10 in. from the right edge; 8 ½ in. from the top edge at 12 ½, 14 and 17 in. respectively from the right edge; 8 in. from the left edge and 13 ½ in. from the bottom edge. There is a t-shaped area of inpainting, approximately 2 in. wide located 5 in. from the top and 17 in. from the right edge and a 1 ½ in. vertical section of inpainting located 5 ¼ in. from the left edge and 9 ½ in. from the bottom edge. These areas are not visible under normal light conditions. This work is mounted in a wood frame with a gilt face.
