Condition

This work appears in very good condition overall. The canvas is well stretched and the surface is generally clean. There are several diagonal linear nuances visible on the surface, extending from the top edge to the blue painted stripe, the longest measuring approximately 20 inches in length, which are presumably inherent to original flaws to the canvas, as there is no relevant inpainting in these areas and it extends from within the bands of color into the unprimed canvas. There is a circular area of discoloration in the lower left corner edge; approximately 1 inch in diameter. Under ultra-violet light inspection, there are no areas of inpainting. Otherwise, there are no apparent condition problems with this work. Framed.

Catalogue Note

There are two things that go on in art. There's getting to the essential material and a design that's inherent in the use of material, and also an essential level of expressiveness, a precise way of saying something rather than a complicated way. – Kenneth Noland
