Catalogue Note

The radiant physical impact of [Mangold's] painted surface – even when scarcely involving any composition – had achieved a heightening that purely by the manner of the application of the paint, triggered off an experience of immediate and unified monumentality. This new kind of impact produced by means of the material, seemed to confirm the enduring validity of painting. – Christel Sauer
