Catalogue Note

The ICA has presented two exhibitions of Warhol's work: Andy
Warhol: Athletes,
1978, and Andy Warhol: Screen Tests, 2001. Group
exhibitions in which Warhol's work featured included The Obsessive
Image 1960-1968
, 1968, which included a continuous screening of
the artist's six-hour film Sleep, seen in Europe for the first time.

Warhol's screenprint ADS: Van Heusen (Ronald Reagan), 1985, was generously donated to the ICA by Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, New York. Warhol was captivated by consumerism and this is one of many works by the artist which incorporate advertising – in this instance an advertisement featuring Ronald Reagan, US President and Hollywood actor, posing for the Van Heusen brand of shirts. The
work comes from Warhol's renowned ADS portfolio.
