Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate although the red tends more towards cherry red in the original work. Condition: This work is in very good condition. There is slight canvas straw to all four corners. There is a 4cm impasto paint loss to the extreme top edge 10cm along from the upper right corner and a further minute loss to the impasto tip to the right of this. There is some faint wear to the lower right corner. There is a faint white rub mark to the bottom section of the right edge of the composition and a faint white rub mark to the bottom of the lower right quadrant, 3cm up from the right edge. There is a minute stable 1mm crack to the level of Mao's mouth, 6cm in from the extreme left edge and a small black rub mark in line with this, 4cm in from the right edge. There is a layer of superficial dust and fibres adhering to the impasto surfaces. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light.
