Literature
Angelika Thill et. al., Gerhard Richter, Catalogue Raisonné: 1962-1993, Vol. III, Osternfildern-Ruit 1993, no. 764-3, illustrated in colour
Condition
Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate though the overall tonality is softer and warmer in the original.
Condition:
This work is in very good condition. Upon close inspection there are three tiny matrices of fine and stable drying cracks: to the right side of the lower extreme edge; to the lower part of the right extreme edge; and adjacent to the top right corner on the top extreme edge. There is a tiny pale media accretion to the centre of the lower horizontal section. Under close inspection in raking light there is an extremely fine and stable hairline tension crack to the left side of the upper extreme overturn edge. No restoration is apparent under ultraviolet light.

Catalogue Note
"Accustomed to recognising real things in paintings, we refuse, justifiably, to consider colour alone (in all its variation) as what the painting reveals, and instead allow ourselves to see the unseeable... Paintings are all the better, the more beautiful, intelligent, crazy and extreme, the more clearly perceptible and the less decipherable metaphors they are for this incomprehensible reality. Art is the highest form of hope."
