Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is slightly deeper and richer, with the green tending more towards dark emerald green in the original. Condition: This work is in good condition. There are a number of fine stable hairline and feather surface cracks throughout the composition, including to the lower part of the composition, to the bottom of the right extreme overturn edge, to the top of the composition and a horizontal crack two-thirds from the top of the canvas to the left of the centre. There are a few spots of wear around the extreme edges resulting in minute isolated media losses to the top of the right extreme edge, to the top left corner and to places on the left extreme edge. There is a further tiny loss to the upper right quadrant, approx 7 cm in from the right extreme edge. There are a few tiny light surface abrasions to the lower left quadrant towards the lower left corner. In raking light there are two fine transparent vertical drip marks at the centre of the upper left quadrant. Under ultraviolet light there is a line of retouching to a small vertical canvas split at the centre of the lower extreme edge.
