Condition

Colours: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is slightly richer and deeper, with the background tending more to rich plum, the turquoise blue of the figure's hat to dark forest green, the red of the left side of the hat to burnt orange and the dark green of the right shoulder to deep forest green in the original. Conditon: This work is in good conditon. The sheet is hinged to the backing sheet at all four corners and there are artist's pinholes at all four corners. The sheet is very slightly undulated. There are a few minute nick at intervals to the extreme edges of the sheet, with a spot where the paper is folding inwards towards the bottom of the left extreme edge. There are a few small and unobtrusive rub marks to the extreme edges and in raking light there are fine small rub marks to the left of the figure's hat and beneath the hat on the lower right side. Upon close examination there is a pale yellow media accretion to the centre of the right extreme edge, tiny specks of white media to the upper and right extreme edges and a tiny surface inconsistency to the upper centre of the top left quadrant. A passage of pale orange media visible in the catalogue illustration to the purple pigment in the lower third of the composition appears to be original to the work's execution. A few fine surface dust fibres are adhering to the green pigment in the lower right quadrant.
