The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is warmer, with the unpainted parts of the canvas tending more towards ivory, the lighter blues in the top left quadrant more to IKB in the original. The catalogue illustration fails to fully convey the rich surface texture and wide range of materials employed by the artist.
This work is in very good condition. There is a tiny canvas protrusion adjacent to the lower left corner on the lower edge. There are a few fine drying cracks to the impastoed black paint on the right side of the lower left quadrant, to the top of the dark pigment on the lower part of the right edge, as well as to the thicker passages of paint elsewhere, including to the top left of the figure's head. Some fine surface dust fibres have adhered to the thicker passages of impasto. No restoration is apparent under UV light.
