Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairy accurate although the overall tonality is brighter and more vibrant. The illustration fails to convey the rich impastoed texture present in the original. Condition: This work is in good condition. There is very slight wear to all four corners with very minor associated paint loss to the lower left extreme corner tip with further tiny spots of paint loss in the bottom right hand corner. There is a tiny canvas bump towards the top of the right edge appearing to be original to the stretcher. There are fine and stable hairline tension cracks intermittently along the top turnover edge. Upon close inspection there is a faint horizontal stretcher mark across the central axis. There are spots of wear at intervals along the extreme turnover edges. There are a number of fine surface scratches to the centre of the top third of the composition, some of which may be intrinsic to the artist's working process, with a number of tiny pin-prick associated losses of paint. There are two small matrices of fine stable craquelure to the left and upper part of the black thick paint. There is further light craquelure and a few losses towards the centre of the top section of the composition. Upon close examination there are a number of drying cracks to the thick impastoed areas in the lower right hand quadrant. There is a small vertical rub mark towards the bottom left hand corner and a further four horizontal rub marks towards the bottom right hand corner. There is a further horizontal rub mark to the upper centre of the composition. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light.
