  • Two pairs of Shahsavan soumac bags
  • approximately 4ft. 4in. by 1ft. 11in. (1.32 by 0.58m.) and 1ft. 10in. by 1ft. 9in. each (0.56 by 0.53m.) (3)
one pair with intact kilim back, the other two bags separated

Condition

Intact pair, 4.4 x 1.11: Bags complete with red kilim back and wool ties, some ties replaced with cotton ones, scattered spot stains to kilim and holes in kilim corners; some fading on one bagface, not extensive. Minor abrasions to surface and surface dirt. Original polychrome wool overcasting with losses and fraying. Cotton cloth patches crudely sewn to center kilim as reinforcement. Good color and sound fabric. Separated pair: each soumac face with a madder red, brown and light blue striped kilim back; scattered moth damage with some holes in outer guard borders and small losses to corners. Minor abrasions and losses to soumac surface due to oxidation now showing warps. Some slits at color changes with visible sewing. Good color and overall condition, sound fabric, will enhance with cleaning.
