  • approximately 5ft. 7in. by 3ft. 11in. (1.70 by 1.19m.) and 6ft. 8in. by 4ft. 2in. (2.03 by 1.27m.) (2)
together with a Yuruk rug, circa 1880

Condition

Melas rug: Pile is generally low to knotheads and foundation overall with some areas with foldwear having slightly higher pile. Oxidized browns, exposing warps and wefts in areas. Two approximately quarter-sized holes in field. Scattered bald areas, with the largest being approximately 2 inches by 2 inches in center of field, possibly due to surface wear and/or moth damage. Scattered repiling. One approximately 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 inch faded reweave in upper right border. One approximately 3 inch by 3 inch dark stain at upper end of field and part of border. Rewoven upper end guard stripe and part of guard border. Rewoven guard stripe is detached from edge on right side for approximately 6 inches. Rewoven lower end guard stripe, guard border and part of primary border. Reweaves at both ends, now considerably faded. Rewoven side guard stripes, color reselvedged. Small breaks to later selvedging. Supple handle, will enhance with careful restoration and cleaning. Yuruk rug: Pile ranges from approximately 1/8 of an inch to low to knotheads and spot foundation in areas of foldwear and surface wear. Oxidized browns with pile low to knotheads and foundation in areas. Scattered repaired slits with the largest being approximately 8 inches long at lower end of field. Scattered moth damage. Further smaller scattered repaired slits. Missing end guard stripes and parts of lower end guard border; recommend securing. Partially overacst sides with small breaks and fraying. Supple handle, will enhance with careful restoration.
