  • approximately 4ft. 7in. by 3ft. 10in. (1.40 by 1.17m.) and 5ft. 4in. by 4ft. (1.62 by 1.22m.) (2)
together with a West Anatolian "Transylvanian" rug, late 17th century

Condition

Ghiordes: Pile is low to knotheads and foundation with areas showing foundation scattered throughout. Reduced in length; the cut is about 1/3 of the way up from lower end of rug. A 5 inch by 4 inch reweave at top of arch. Smaller scattered reweaves. Reselvaged. Missing end guard stripes with small losses into outer end guard borders. Kashmir repiling, particularly in browns of border. Very supple handle, thin carpet, good color, unusual stylized vinery design arch. West Anatolian: Pile is generally low to knotheads with large areas showing foundation. Both ends missing outer guard border with losses into major border. Sides with losses into guard stripes and remnants of later selvages, now fraying, recommend securing. A 4 inch by 3 inch reweave at center of rug. A 3 inch by 2 inch on left side of medallion. Faded Kashmir repiling and old tinting, particularly in red field. Supple handle.
