comprising an Afshar bagface and four Kurdish bagfaces
Condition
Qashqa'i: Near original full 1/8 of an inch pile overall with an area of moth damage in lower right corner showing foundation and nickel-sized hole. Original madder red kilim back attached.
Afshar: Circa 1900. Pile is low to knotheads throughout with two repaired slits, lower end edge, small nick in same edge, glue residue on reverse on both edges. Small nick out of upper edge as well. Machine stitched overcasting on sides.
Kurdish bagface 3.5 x 2.2: Circa 1900. Generally good pile, closely sheared 1/8 of an inch, with browns oxidized to knotheads and foundation in areas. Missing end guard stripes. Sides with added on kilim finishes. Supple handle, lustrous wool, good color.
Kurdish bagface 2.2 x 1.10: Circa 1920. Good, dense 1/6 of an inch pile with dark browns oxidized to knotheads. Missing lower end guard stripes. A 2 inch by 1/2 inch loss to upper right corner. Selvages fraying. Supple handle.
Kurdish bagface 1.9 x 1.6: Circa 1910. Good 1/6 of an inch pile. Dark browns oxidized to knotheads. Missing end guard stripes. Ends with losses into ivory border. Fraying in areas. Sides with alter overcasting and fraying. Supple handle, lustrous wool.
Kurdish bagface 2.1 x 2.1: Circa 1910. Good dense 1/5 of an inch pile. Lustrous wool. Dark browns oxidized to knotheads. Original side cords with minor fraying and later overcasting. Ends with remnants of embroidered end finishes, now overcast with cloth tape. Robust handle.
