Condition
Original canvas is sound. One small hole with resultant paint loss in the sky, upper left and one small area of paint loss also in the sky, plus an area of paint loss to the grass. One paint chips to the upper left of the work and one further tear that has gone through the canvas. Minor frame abrasion to all edges, most noticable to the left edge. There is an area of retouching to the skyline that is visible to the naked eye. Also some surface dirt, most visible to the skyline. Ultraviolet light reveals areas of retouching throughout, particularly to the forground, and to the figure's torso. Held in a decorative, gold-painted, composite frame.
