Condition

Original canvas. One small crack running vertically approximately 1 inch long by the lower left edge. Scattered areas of craqulure, mainly to the upper background. Ultraviolet light reveals a few scattered patches of retouching. Held in a decorative moulded plaster frame.

Catalogue Note

Capt. Hon. Reginald Ailwyn Fellowes was born in 1884 at the height of British Imperial fervour and as a descendant of the Dukes of Marlborough, and of the royal bloodline, he enjoyed a privileged upbringing during the golden age of British power.  In 1919 he married the beautiful socialite Marguerite Severine Philippine, daughter of the 4th Duke of Decazas and Glucksburg, known throughout Society as 'Daisy'. 

 

Immortalised by Cecil Beaton, Daisy Fellowes was an acclaimed beauty, fashion icon, editor of French Harpers Bazaar, and heiress to the Singer sewing machine fortune.
