Condition

Original canvas. There is scattered craquelure and some area of paint separation, notably to the area of the two figures in the foreground. Surface dirt and a discoloured vranish throughout. There is a spot of paint loss, lower right, a repaired tear (approx 4cm) to the leg of the central figure and paint thinning across the lower half of the painting. Ultraviolet light reveals some scattered infillings to craquelure, some spots of retouching to the seated figuer and scattered spots elsewhere under an opaque varnish. Held in a decorative gilded composite frame.
