Description

la représentation à quatre bras d'Avalokitesvara en cuivre repoussé délicatement doré, avec une expression de compassion sur son visage peint, une représentation de son parent Amithaba apparaissant au dessus de sa haute coiffure en jatamakutha, ses deux mains principales jointes ensemble en Anjali mudra, le geste de salutation respectueuse, la main secondaire droite levée tenant un bodhi entre le pouce et l'index, la gauche faisant le geste de tenir une fleur de lotus (manquante), la divinité couverte d'une parure de bodhisattva et assise en vajraparyankasana sur un élégant double socle en forme de lotus



The finely gilded repousse image representing the four-armed manifestation of Avalokiteshvara, a compassionate gaze playing on the gold painted face, with the head of his parent Buddha Amitabha appearing above a tall jatamakutha, his principal hands held together in anjali mudra, the gesture of respectful salutation, with the upper right hand holding a bodhi bead between thumb and forefinger, and the upper left in the gesture of holding a now-missing lotus flower, the deity wearing bodhisattva jewelry and seated in vajraparyankasana on an elegant double lotus pedestal

Condition

Generally good condition. There is a repair to the forearm of the principle left arm (showing on the illustration in the catalogue) and to sashes attached to the crown. There is rubbing to the gilding on the face, hands, arms, and feet as visible in the catalogue. Three dents to the lower edge of the back of the base.
