Catalogue Note
The present example relates to a group of goblets with narrow stems with a small disc foot and an applied disc base to the cup. The few extant examples date from 10th/11th-century Persia and are recognised by, amongst other things, their trailed decoration that features simple threads and curling or waving motifs both of which are exhibited here (see Carboni 2001, cat. 41, p.172 for an example of a goblet from this group). A near-identical glass goblet featuring trailed threads and loop handles with ring pendants is in the L.A Mayer Memorial Museum of Art, Jerusalem (no. G71), see Hasson, R., Early Islamic Glass, Jerusalem, 1979, p.9, no.11.
