- A Heriz silk carpet
- approximately 299 by 205cm., 9ft. 10in. by 6ft. 9in.
Condition
Colour: warmer and lighter with less contrast than it appears in catalogue illustration; the blues are light ice blue and field is softer terracotta.
Pile is generally good near original very closely sheared approximately 1/10 inch of very evenly spun and sheared, high quality silk. Very minor scattered areas of foldwear and oxidation low to knotheads, with a 1 x 1/8 inch spot in upper guard border. Scattered spot stains on surface, not visible when carpet viewed from the light side.
Dark stains to reverse of carpet, particularly at ends, with some fragility and brittleness to foundation in small spots along upper edge of carpet.
Original 2 cord selvages wtih some fraying---recommend securing.
Upper end with original kilim end finish; lower end with cable stitching; both ends with warp fringes.
Generally supple, blanket-like handle.
Handsome color and unusual overall strapwork design.
