Catalogue Note
A rare example of Rabat embroidery in a single colour; the anthropomorphic figures (reminiscent of rows of full-skirted 17th century Spanish courtiers) are more usually executed in contrasting colours, for example red, followed by blue and occasionally yellow, see Denamur, I., Moroccan Textile Embroidery, Paris, 2003, p.147, centre, for an illustration of an 18th century example in the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Niblack.
