Description
of shallow rounded form with a narrow rim, decorated with underglaze cobalt blue, veridian green and relief red, outlined in black with petals filled with alternating prunus stems radiating from a central lotus medallion, the rim with an arcade of prunus palmettes, the exterior with alternating paired tulips and rosettes

Breaks throughout with associated restoration only visible on reverse, minor chips to rim, as viewed

This unusual dish with radiating blossoms relates to the interior of two earlier blue and white basins one in the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Museum, Lisbon (Atasoy & Raby 1989, no.303), circa 1520, and the other in the Victoria and Albert Museum, circa 1530 (ibid , no.130).
