Description

of compressed globular form, with a cylindrical neck and S-shaped handle, painted in underglaze cobalt blue, manganese purple and outlined in black, decorated with oval medallions enclosing rosettes interposed by cintamani and foliate motifs

Catalogue Note

The incorporation of manganese purple within the colour palette is characteristic of the phase of Iznik ceramic production known as "Damascus Style", which precedes the introduction of relief red in the mid-1550s.
