Catalogue Note

The tulip-shaped socket became a feature from the turn of the sixteenth century. A similar example is in the Victoria and Albert Museum (Melikian-Chirvani 1982, no.127), and another is illustrated by Petsopoulos 1982, p.43, no.41. This candlestick would have been cast in two pieces and joined at the base of the neck.
