Description

the blade of watered steel with gold overlaid foliate scrolls to the forte, finely engraved gilt-metal ferrrule and hilt of coral decorated with rosette and tendril designs in carved relief with turquoise roundel to the pommel

good condition, very minor abrasions to the gold overlay on the blade, replacement brass cuff, as viewed

Fath 'Ali Shah ruled between 1212 and 1250 H. (A.D. 1797-1834).

Daggers of a similar design to this can be seen in the Topkapi Saray Museum in Istanbul and the Furusiyya Art Foundation (see L'art des Chevaliers en Pays d'Islam: Collection de la Furusiyya Art Foundation, Paris, 2007, p.173).
