Catalogue Note
This dish belongs to a group attributed by Ray to Manises, 1525-1575, typified by large-scale animals or birds in energetic posture represented singly or in pairs (Ray 2000, pp.129-130). A dish with similar rampant lion is in the collection Museé du Cluny, Paris, dated slightly earlier to 1469-1474 (see El refleto de Manises. Cerámica hispano-morisca del Museo de Cluny de París, Barcelona, 1996, pp. 62-65, no.8)
