Catalogue Note

This unusual tile relates to a stellar tile in the Keir Collection with a similar pair of confronting 'Kashan birds' reserved on a solid lustre ground (see Grube 1976, p.249, no.185). A further related example with a gazelle reserved on a lustre ground scratched through with scrolls is in the Freer Gallery of Art, Washington (Atil 1973, pp.80-81, no.34)
