of hemispherical shape with disc-form foot, painted in brown slip on a cream slip ground with a calligraphic design below a painted scalloped band to the rim, the back with three hatched medallions separated by foliate motifs

Catalogue Note

inscriptions
The inscriptions appear to be a repetition of the word baraka ('Blessing') with the last letter (ta marbuta) being used for the first letter of the next baraka.

A similar bowl is in the Nasser D. Khalili Collection, see Grube 1994, pp.94-95, no.89. The present bowl has been subject to a thermoluminescence test confirming the date of last firing as stated.
