  • 21 1/2 by 37 in. 54.6 by 94 cm.
depicting in multicolored tesserae a large fish or sea-monster swimming to right, with gaping mouth and coiled trifurcated tail.

Provenance

acquired in 1969 by the present owner from Asfar Bros., Hotel St. George, Beirut [inv. no. 261]

Condition

Tesserae set in heavy modern concrete slab, a few isolated tesserae missing, some minor losses filled with grout, entire surface covered with waxy substance which enhances colors but has turned yellow overtime
