Description

  • Three Italic Pottery Vessels
  • Heights 11 1/2 , 15 3/4 , and 12 3/4 in. 29.2, 40, and 32.9 cm.
comprising a late Villanovan impasto krater with pedestal foot, ribbed biconical body decorated with circular bosses, long tapering neck, flaring mouth, and twin horizontal handles, a trefoil oinochoe (probably not ancient) with piriform body engraved with linked palmettes, and an Etruscan bucchero trefoil oinochoe with ovoid body, each oinochoe with rotelles on the rim.

acquired in 1976/1977

Condition

krater: intact, several minor hairline cracks on the rim; trefoil oinochoe: intact (note that in our opinion this vessel is probably not ancient); bucchero oinochoe: one rotelle and part of the handle adjacent to it broken off and repaired, minor chips on the handle and edge of the foot
