Condition

The painting is in good condition, as is the canvas, which is clear and taut. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals several spots of retouching; on man in black robes, boy on the left, left thigh of old man wearing spectacles and a spot near book. Besides minor retouching, the paint layers are stable and intact. The colours represented in the catalogue illustration are too yellow compared to the actual painting.
