Condition

Canvas is lined. SURFACE: in good condition; canvas is a bit loose on stretcher and billows slightly in a few places UNDER ULTRA VIOLET: very difficult to discern inpainting under old varnish; there are a few thin vertical lines and a few small spots of old repaint on Psyche's chest down to her skirt

Catalogue Note

This work is one of two paintings by the artist depicting Episodes from the Life of Psyche, which at one time decorated a room in the St. Regis Hotel, New York City.  Both works were sold in these rooms in 1969.
